Christmas Party Makeup Guide
The festive season is not just reserved for Christmas dinner and family time, a lot of us have many events to try and cram in. Take a look at our top tips for the best festive makeup to compliment your outfits!
The Festive Soft Glam
When we think of Christmas, we instantly think of glitter. However, we know that some people aren’t comfortable putting lots of glitter on their face and sometimes, a soft, glamourous look can be just as impactful.
Start by priming your eyes with something lightweight. We recommend Urban Decay’s Primer Potion in the colour Eden for a smooth, even base. Next take a mid, warm toned brown on a fluffy eyeshadow brush and put this through the socket of your eye, then blend upwards until the colour seamlessly blends into your skin. Add a touch of deeper brown shadow along your top lash line to frame the eyes.
Add this colour to the outer corner of the eye for some lift. Next, use your finger to press some gold reflective eyeshadow on the eyelid. For extra sparkle, you can press a pigment over the top – we recommend the Peaches and Cream glitter pigment in Dynamite. Next add your favourite false eyelashes – these can be strip lashes or individual ones, whichever you feel the most comfortable in. Pair this soft look with a medium coverage foundation and warm toned bronzer. Finish with a crisp red lip. Some of our favourites are Mac Ruby Woo for an ultra-matte, bullet proof pout. For something more comfortable, give Illamasqua’s lipstick in Flare a try.
The Party Look
If you have a Christmas party or festive event to attend, you want to be looking your best. Use these tips and tricks to accentuate your best features and be fresh faced and ready to party!
Prime your eyelids with the Mac Paint pot in Soft Ochre. This is a harder duty base and will keep the makeup in place all night. Next take a mid-tone brown eyeshadow and sweep this through the socket of the eye blending upwards. Next take a deeper brown and place this slightly lower than the first colour. Blend these with a clean brush to defuse the colour and remove any hard edges.
Next take a deep, cool toned brown and put this on the outer corner of the eye, slightly winging the eyeshadow upwards – then blend again. Once you have created a nice, blended shape, add in a base for your sparkle. We love the Nars Single Eyeshadow in Stud for this. Use a small brush or your finger and gently press the colour onto the eyelid where you want it. Once you are happy with the shape, blend the edges into the brown eyeshadow. Next dab some Illamasqua pigment in Beguile over the top. This will add a fine yet striking shimmer to the eyes. Line the top lash line with black liquid eyeliner – for one that stays all night use the Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner. Apply mascara and false lashes and line your bottom waterline with a black kohl pencil. We would wear this eye makeup with a dewy, fresh skin and nude lip.
The Bold Lip
If eye makeup isn’t your thing, make a statement with your lips! There is something classic about a bold lip, fresh skin and simple lashes. We recommend using a good lip pencil and matte lipstick to keep the lines crisp. There are plenty of festive colours to choose from – the classic red, a warm brown tone or even a dark, sultry purple!
We recommend keeping the skin fresh and dewy for this look. This is easily acheived by using a hydrating foundation such as Illamasqua Skin Base and a touch of liquid highlighter to add a subtle glow. A good tip for a bold look like this is to keep everything else monotone.
Sweep a small amount of your bronzer through your eye socket to create a harmonious look and tie the face together. Finish with a smoked out brown kohl pencil on the top lash line and some false lashes.
