Fun Crafts To Do At Home

It feels like we’ve been in lockdown for ages – the garden is done, the freezer is full, the house is decluttered – so what now? Turn your hand to some crafting to pass the time and learn a new skill.

Decoupage

This is a really mindful activity that doesn’t require much equipment, it doesn’t require a lot of space and it’s easy to get started.

Decoupage is basically taking special sheets of tissue paper, tearing them into pieces and gluing them on to something to create a new random effect.

You can decoupage anything from cardboard boxes, and decoratives shapes made for the purpose, plant pots to jazz up your garden, or upcycle furniture or picture frames to breathe new life into your home.

Everything you need from the special glue to the brushes to the paper can be purchased online from somewhere like Amazon.

Colouring

This is another activity that’s pretty low cost and low skill and low mess – you may not have done colouring since you were at school, but it’s actually a great way to unwind.

All you need is some colouring pencils (I steal mine from the children) and a colouring book. There are plenty to choose from out there whether it’s fractals and abstract shapes to pretty florals, there’s something to suit your mood.

Macrame

Macrame

Macrame is the latest trend in home décor – and it’s pretty easy and you don’t need much equipment – just a stick, a tape measure, some scissors, and some masking tape as well as the string or cord that you’ll use to create your piece.

It’s all about knots, and maintaining the correct tension as you would with knitting or crochet, learn a couple of basic knots and you’re ready to go.

Here are some great links to videos with easy user guides on macramé.
