A Roundup of the year

2020 has been a funny old year. As a nation, we have collectively experienced grief, struggles and a major shift to our everyday life. However, through the dark times, there is always humour and nice gestures that makes it all seem more bearable. Here is a round-up of our favourite things that happened in 2020.

January

Ah, pre-covid life! It seems like a lifetime ago but just 11 short months ago we were socialising, hugging and still enjoyed spending time with the members of our household.

January saw the Oscars go ahead as if a global pandemic wasn’t heading straight for us! Parasite won the best picture and all was well in the world!

February

February saw the rise of TIKTOK. Don’t deny it, whether you like it or not you will have seen a video over the last 10 months that had your sides splitting and it is probably from this app.

March

March saw the clearing of the waters in Venice. Air pollution was down due to fewer planes and our roads were clearer than ever before. It felt like someone had pressed a reset button and the planet was starting to seem grateful for it.

April

Captain Tom was the name on everyone's lips in April 2020. His wonderful gesture of walking 100 laps of his garden for his 100th birthday in the hopes of raising money for NHS staff catapulted him into the spotlight. He set the record for the most money donated to a Just Giving page with a staggering £32,796,475 raised.

May

May saw us peeling ourselves from our sofas, brushing off the biscuit crumbs and heading back into the great outdoors!

June

June saw the recognition that working from offered a new kind of work-life balance that we hadn’t seen for a long time. Suddenly, we could spend more times working on our homes and ourselves and less time worrying about deadlines and rush hour traffic.

July

July was a lovely month for coming together. The weather was warm and we could enjoy spending time in our gardens. We all got to know our neighbours from over the fence and a sense of camaraderie was in the air.

August

August saw the introduction of the Eat out to Help out scheme. This allowed us a much-needed break from our own four walls and we were welcomed back into restaurants with open arms!

September

The first lockdown was over and we were hoping life was returning to some sort of normality – then the Second lockdown hit. This meant loungewear was back on the cards and we lapped it up!

October

Restaurants such as Las Iguanas were offering free recipe cards to allow people to create their bestselling dishes from the comfort of their own homes! This was a big win for those of us who just wanted a little taste of normality.

November

November was a busy month for good things happening in the UK. The Great British Bake Off saw Peter crowned Star Baker this year, Lewis Hamilton won his seventh World Drivers' Championship title and now holds the joint record with Michael Schumacher and I’m a Celebrity graced our screens!

December

A vaccine has been discovered, its Christmas and the new year on the horizon is bringing us hope. Christmas events like socially distanced light shows and meetings with Santa are popular and drive-in movie theatres have made a huge comeback!
